Physical Description:
Small frame with no remaining projection.
Hit:
Fringe-average hit tool. Solid approach, smart hitter. Doesn't
strike out much but doesn't impact the ball.
Power: Below-average power. Not
a part of his game.
Run:
Above-average runner. Smart baserunner and base stealer.
Field: Primarily a second baseman also able to
shortstop, third base, and corner outfield. Adequate defender,
makes the routine plays.

Career Notes:
Brother Nick played pro ball. Alvarez played in high school and
college but focused on speed skating in his early 20s, winning
an Olympic silver medal in 2014. Returned to baseball at the age
of 24, signing with the White Sox as an undrafted free agent.
Went on to win a silver medal with the US Olympic baseball team
in 2021, making him one of six athletes ever to win medals in
both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Signed with the Red Sox
during the 2023 season that also included the 2024 season.
Suffered a fractured foot running the bases in his first game
after signing with the Red Sox and missed the rest of the 2023
season.
