Scouting Report:
A Cy Young award winner in 2005, Colon struggled through injury problems
in 2006 and 2007, including a torn rotator cuff, which pitchers are rarely
able to fully return from. Prior to his injuries, his 4-seamer
regularly hit the mid 90s, complemented by an excellent sinker, a decent
slider, and an average change-up. In 2008, Colon's fastball is
sitting between 88 and 91 mph. His command remains very good.
If he is unable to keep his velocity back into the low 90s, Colon could
still succeed at the MLB level, as he's smart on the mound and mixes his
pitchers well. There are also reports that his endurance is an
increasing concern, which is not surprising given his size.
