Scouting Report:
3/4 arm slot.
Live bullpen arm with a good 89-92 mph fastball with nice late movement,
a solid 78-82 mph slider, and a 79-80 mph changeup that is a rarely used
work in progress. Cox's slider, while outstanding at times, can
disappear for periods leaving him without an effective out pitch.
Induces a lot of groundballs. Inconsistent command, particularly of his
secondary pitches. He's also previously had major struggles with
control, including a case of the yips in which he totally lost the
strike zone in college. However, he was able to overcome those issues
late in 2006 and ultimately dominated the College World Series. Cox has
stated that he is more comfortable as a middle reliever than as a
closer. |
