Physical Description: Tall right-hander with a solid,
filled-out frame. Climbed the ranks as a lanky framed righty, but added
bulk in recent years.
Mechanics: Throws from a
three-quarters arm slot. Tends to speed up delivery at tail end when
throwing his fastball. Not an overly loose thrower, as he possesses some
stiffness and effort in his delivery. Inconsistent command and control.
Fastball: Sits 89-92 mph. Shows arm-side run. Can
reach back for more and has topped out at 94 mph in the past. Can also
slow down the pitch as an 88-90 mph with sinking action.
Curveball: 77-79 mph curveball shows loopy break, but can create
depth when staying on top of the pitch. Needs more consistency snapping it
off to improve crispness and depth. Has confidence in pitch.
Slider: 82-85 mph.
Changeup:
80-83 mph. Straight changeup. Throws with deceptive arm speed.
Career Notes: Showed marginal promise as a starter
with Boston, but hit minor league free agency in 2016. Pitched in Detroit
and Miami organizations for a year before re-signing with the Red Sox. Packed
on some muscle in his mid-20s.
Summation: Ceiling
of an up-and-down emergency starter, but profiles best as emergency depth
at Triple-A when the major league club may need a pitcher to throw some
innings to save the bullpen. |
