Notes from the Field: Day Two (3.18.16) |
Signed with Miami (Dec.
2021)
Physical Description:
Small, athletic frame. Not physically imposing. No remaining projection.
Mechanics: Typically uses a three-quarters arm slot,
but will drop to sidearm with two strikes to give hitters another look.
Starts on the third base side and does not use a wind-up. Simple,
repeatable delivery. Clean arm action. Works quick. Has some deception in
delivery. Good pitchability; has a plan for each batter and knows what he
wants to do. Very good pick-off move that is deceptive and very subtle.
Fastball: 85-87 mph. Tops out at 89 mph. Primarily
cuts the pitch, but will also show arm-side run. Throws strikes and has
solid command and control.
Cutter: 83-85 mph.
Short, horizontal shape. Uses pitch often.
Breaking Ball:
77-81 mph. Short, 2-to-8 shape. Slider-ish at times and lacks depth.
Changeup: 76-80 mph, on the lower end of the velocity
band when throwing over the top and the higher end when thrown sidearm.
Did not throw in outing scouted in 2021. Solid velocity differential from
fastball at lower velocity band.
Career Notes: Has
been used as a true swingman for much of his career in the organization.
Won Minor League Gold Glove in 2019.
Summation:
Projects as a solid organizational arm. Lacks stuff, but is a crafty lefty
with strong pitchability. Throws a ton of strikes and can give hitters a
variety of looks. Can start or pitch in relief and provide length in
either role. Type of player every organization needs. |
