Scouting Report: Venezuelan catcher was Boston's biggest bonus baby of the 2008 early international signing period, receiving a reported bonus of $713K. Catcher’s body, with strong core and lower half. Advanced defensive tools for his age. Shows strong reactions and instincts. Can stand to improve blocking skills and control of balls in the dirt. Plus arm, but needs to work on his throwing mechanics. Offensive game has been slow to progress. Swing mechanics are on the choppy side. Fringe-average batspeed as a result of slow load. Struggles to create solid contact. Developing professional approach and pitch recognition. Average power potential. Ceiling of a back-up catcher at the major league level.  Reportedly converted to a pitcher in spring of 2013.
