Scouting Report: Live arm with a deceptive but violent delivery. Gets a lot of torque with a tornado-style delivery, where he turns his back completely from the plate before rotating into his delivery. After his windup, he delivers the ball quickly, leaving the batter with little opportunity to get an eye on the ball. His primary pitch is an above average low 90s sinker. Also makes use of a very good low 80s changeup with nice downward movement, a developing slider, and a split fingered fastball. Uses the splitter as his out pitch. A starter in college, Portice has a very good future as a bullpen arm. Outstanding strikeout numbers. Extreme groundball pitcher. Impressive splits against righties. Struggles with control on occasion. Needs to work on his consistency. Has been old for his level throughout his pro career.
