Scouting Scratch: Late-round 2017 draftees (8.28.17)
Released (March 2019)

Physical Description: Undersized with minimal remaining physical
projection. Average athlete, strong lower half.
Hit:
Contact oriented swing, Bat will never be a strength of his despite a
solid approach and decent contact skills. Recognizes pitches well and has
a good idea of the strike zone. Uses all fields.
Power:
Minimal raw power. Doesn’t project for much if any in-game over the fence
power. Gap power at best.
Arm: Fringe arm for
shortstop. Passable at all infield positions, but doesn’t have a standout
arm. Throws lack carry at times.
Field: Strong
defensive profile. Shows solid footwork and fluid actions at the position.
Soft hands and quick transfer and release. Above-average range to both
sides. Aggressive on charging balls in front of him. Good instincts and
takes good angles. Potential solid-average defender capable of sticking at
shortstop.
Run: Average speed. Not a major part of
his game.
Career Notes: Named Honorable Mention
All-Pac 12 in 2016 and All-Pac 12 in 2017.
Summation:
Glove-first shortstop who projects as an organizational player.
Chances of developing into more depend on his ability to develop at the
plate. Will never have power, but could make enough contact to hit for an
empty average and stay in the lineup due to his defensive profile. |
