Physical Description: Large, soft body. Much heavier than
listed weight of 230 pounds. No physical projection. Physical conditioning
will require constant monitoring.
Mechanics:
Starts on the third base side and throws over the top. Vertical, arm-heavy
delivery. Minimal momentum going forward. Slight arm loop behind.
Fastball: 91-93 mph. Tops out at 95 mph. Shows some cut
at lower velocities, but is straight when harder. Pitch shows some life,
but has poor command and control. Plus velocity, but pitch will play lower
due to lack of movement and command profile.
Slider:
83-85 mph. Short, vertical break. Sharp at times, but inconsistent.
Average potential.
Changeup: 81-86 mph. Looks like
a fastball he took something off when harder. Will flash fade at lower
velocities, but slows arm. Below-average potential.
Career
Notes: Missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John
surgery.
Summation: Large right-hander was still
pitching in short-season in his fifth year in the organization--started
2016 in Greenville but only lasted one month. Velocity ticked up after
Tommy John surgery, but secondary pitches lag behind and his delivery is
tough to repeat. Will struggle to get out of the low minors. |
