Scouting Report: A scrappy, Dave Eckstein type player, Spears makes average contact and has minimal power.  Hits to all fields. Above-average plate discipline. Not a stolen base threat.  Came up through the minors playing shortstop and second base, but transitioned more to third base in 2009.  Still capable of playing all three positions adequately, providing ample roster flexibility.
