Physical
Description: Athletic frame with some
remaining projection especially in his upper body. Moves well off the
mound.
Mechanics: Starts on the first base side of
the rubber and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Jerky delivery with
no wind up. High leg kick. Long arm action behind. Average arm speed.
Repeats delivery well. Some deception in delivery.
Fastball: 90-92 mph. Above-average control, but below-average
command, resulting in a lot of hard contact. Shows some sink down in the
zone, but flattens out when up. Generates a lot of ground balls. Pitch
shows average life.
Curveball: 74-78 mph. Has
shown good feel for the pitch with depth through zone. Can get slurvy, but
is more effective when he snaps it off with 12-to-6 shape.
Changeup: 83-85 mph. Has already improved since he
signed. Showed good arm speed and some late fade during Spring Training
2018. Used the pitch sparingly in 2017 and when he did was on the firm
side with little movement.
Career Notes: Was a
starter in college before moving to the bullpen when he signed with the
Red Sox.
Summation: Projects as an organizational
reliever. Lacks an above-average secondary pitch to complement fastball.
Control profile will allow him to succeed in the low minors, but will need
to improve fastball command and improve secondary offerings. |
