Physical Description: Medium, sturdy frame.
Thick lower half, no remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot.
Starts on the first base side of the rubber.
Fastball: 92-94 mph. Tops out at 96 mph. Will come out
at 94-96, but primarily pitches at 92-94 for the majority of the
game. Average control, below-average command. Pitch is generally
around the zone and used primarily to generate weak contact or
get ahead in the count. Not a bat-missing pitch. Pitch has
strong characteristics including above-average IVB. Potential
average offering.
Changeup: 84-87 mph.
Pitch shows late fade when he pulls the string on it. Can slow
his arm some and telegraph it, but also will throw some that are
very deceptive and look exactly like a fastball until late.
Potential above-average offering.
Breaking Ball:
82-87 mph. Throws two versions, a slider and a sweeper, but they
can run into each other and can blend together at times. Has
feel for spin and will flash potential at both the lower and
upper levels of the velocity band. Slider at 85-87 mph will show
bite with short, 2-to-8 shape, while the more sweeper-looking
version comes in at 82-84 mph and is longer with more depth.
Breaking balls could use some refinement to further
differentiate between them. Potential average offering.
Cutter: 90-91 mph. Short, horizontal movement.
Thrown primarily against right-handed hitters. Potential
fringe-average offering. |

Career Notes: Was a two-way player in college,
playing at NAIA Corban University for two years before
transferring to Division II Northwest Nazarine University in
2018 for his junior season. Signed with the Rangers as an
undrafted free agent as a pitcher in August 2018 following an
outstanding summer in the collegiate West Coast League. Had
Tommy John surgery in April 2019 and was released in June 2020.
After rehabbing, spent May 2021 through August 2023 playing for
Boise, Billings, and Missoula in the independent Pioneer League
before signing with the Red Sox in August 2023 and joining the
Greenville rotation. Pitched in the Arizona Fall League in 2023
and was named to the Fall Stars Game.
Summation:
Potential up-and-down, multi-inning depth arm. Ceiling of a
depth/sixth starter type. Better than your typical indy ball
signing, especially given how little time he has in affiliated
ball. Will show feel for all of his pitches and solid velocity
from the left side. Changeup is a legit out pitch, but needs to
refine his fastball command and control. Stuff will be tested
against more advanced hitters, but has shown already that he is
too good for the low-minors. Still pretty early in the
developmental process even though he is already 26, so there is
a chance further work with player development could unlock even
more.
