2015 Top 40 Season in Review
Signed a minor league deal with LAA (Dec. 2019) |
Physical Description:
Average build, minimal physical projection. Fringe athlete.
Hit: Starts with an open, vertical stance with hands
high. Slight leg lift. Below-average bat speed. Swing is on the long side
and has the tendency to come around the ball. Likes the ball out away from
his body, where he can get extended. Bat drags through the zone. Finishes
with one hand high. Poor approach, attacks pitches out of the zone and
gets caught out in front of secondary offerings. Makes a lot of weak
contact and rolls over to the left side. Struggles with velocity and with
pitches on the inner half. Bat showed promise early in career, but
development has stagnated. Will take a professional batting practice and
show an all-fields approach. Potential below-average hit tool.
Power: Will show average raw power, but plays
below-average in game. Doesn’t drive the ball with authority and struggles
to generate lift. Swing more tailored for gap power.
Run:
Well below-average speed. Takes time
to get going and even when at full speed not quick.
Field:
Has played first base, second base, third base and corner outfield trying
to find a position that fits. Lacks foot speed, below-average range.
Footwork can get sloppy, especially at third base. Glove alone probably
best suited for second base, but lack of lateral quickness and range not
ideal. Moved full-time to outfield in 2017.
Arm:
Average arm strength, but can be erratic at times.
Career
Notes: Participated in 2013 and 2014 Fall Instructional League.
Became Lowell Spinners' all-time hits leader on June 25, 2017.
Summation: Projects as depth in the low minors, but
if bat showed promise it once did, it would carry him
to the high minors. Development appears to have stalled, having still not
advanced past High A in his seventh year in the system. Defensive
deficiencies limit upside. Doesn’t have a position where he projects as
even an average defender. Will need to make major strides in that area to
reach the high minors. |
