Career Notes:
Played for the gold-medal US National Team at the 2013 18U
Baseball World Cup, where he was named MVP. Selected in the
first round in 2013, considered a bit of an overdraft at the
time. Played in the AFL in 2015. Generally considered a top 100
prospect in the game from 2016-2018. Missed time in 2017 ater
getting hit in the hand twice. Included in a trade for Evan
Longoria the next off-season. Traded to Cleveland in July 2019.
Missed a portion of 2019 with right forearm tendonitis. DFA'd by
Cleveland in August 2020. Seen as a depth acquisition in
mid-August and cleared waivers, being outrighted to the
Alternate Training Site. Was called up to the MLB roster late in
the year and served as the club's starting second baseman down
the stretch. Entered 2021 season on Boston's bench.
Summation:
Career has been hampered by injuriies, hasn't been able to stick
at the major league level. Profiles as emergency depth at this
stage. However, iff healthy, still has the potential to develop
into a valuable bench utility player and pinch hitter against
lefties.
