  Scouting Report & Links

Physical Description: Compact, short, strong, athletic build. Maxed out physically.

Hit: Quick hands and explosive through the zone while staying under control. Shows advanced knowledge of the strike zone.  Two-handed finish. Pull heavy approach.

Power: Plus bat speed. Compact strength. Leverage in swing for future plus power.

Arm: Average arm strength and accuracy.

Field: Athletic defensive actions with average reads and range in center field. Able to play all outfield positions if necessary.

Run: Above-average runner with base-stealing potential. Not a burner, but quick, athletic strides with accelerating speed underway and great instincts.

Career Notes: Drafted by the Reds in 2013 but did not sign. Had right hamate bone removed before college. Suffered strained quad late in freshman season at Arkansas and did not play summer ball, focusing instead on building upper body strength while rehabbing the injury; had significant jump in power production as a result. Under-the-radar player at Arkansas had dramatic late climb up draft boards in part because some teams did not realize he was a draft-eligible sophomore. Was one of the top prospects in baseball entering 2017 season. Second in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2017. World Series champion in 2018. Missed significant portion of 2020 season with a right rib cage injury, ich likely affected his performance prior to going on the IL.

Summation: Future potential regular, everyday-type outfielder. Ceiling of an occasional All-Star. Athleticism and profile to potentially play all three outfield positions. Average to above-average tools across the board. Needs to prove raw power and approach will continue to translate against advanced pitching.
