Career Notes: Missed most of his sophomore
season at Arkansas with elbow issues. Acquired in a trade for
Luis Urias in November 2023, he looked very good in spring
training and in March/early April 2024, but after back-to-back
blow-ups on April 10 and 11, went on the injured list with a
right shoulder impingement, missing six weeks. Was optioned to
Worcester after completing his rehab assignment, making only one
more appearance in Boston before his season ended in mid-July
due to right elbow inflammation. Was designated for assignment
and non-tendered in November 2024, but re-signed with the Red
Sox on a minor league contract.
Summation:
Potential up-and-down emergency depth arm. Ceiling of a volatile
low-leverage reliever. Lack of fastball quality limits upside
and causes him to have to pitch off his breaking balls. All have
a high spin rate, but if he is not landing them in the zone, he
becomes very predictable. Type of arm that can work in shorter
spurts, but if seen multiple times becomes hittable.
