Career
Notes: Opted to attend St. Johns over signing with
Texas in 2009. Struggled as a starter early in his pro career in
the Rockies' system. Excelled as a reliever in 2014-2016,
earning n MLB callup in 2016. Invited to spring training in
2017. Traded to the Cubs for Zac Rosscup in June 2017. Released
in December 2017 to pursue a career in Japan. Re-signed with the
Cubs in 2019 but was released that June after pitching 16 games
in Triple-A Iowa. Signed with the Mariners and got a cup of
coffee later that season, only to be outrighted that off-season.
Signed a minor league deal with Saan Francisco for 2020, but
required Tommy John Surgery in March 2020. Signed a minor league
deal with Boston in January 2021, including an invitation to
spring training. Opened 2021 on the injured list at the
Alternate Training Site. Spent lone season with Red Sox on the
injured list.
Summation: Middle reliever potential if
healthy. Has done a lot work overhauling his pitch mix in recent
years. Seems likely to settle in with his sinker, cutter, and
splitter. Will need to show some extended success in Triple-A to
earn a callup.
