Physical Description:
Athletic, projectable frame. Standout athleticism with plenty of
remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws
from a three-quarters arm slot. Starts on the first base side of
the rubber. High leg kick. Fair amount of effort in his
delivery. Very quick arm.
Fastball:
92-95 mph. Tops out at 98 mph. Fastball shows ride up and sink
when down in the zone. Velocity saw a substantial uptick in
2024.
Breaking Ball:
76-79 mph. Slurvy breaking ball that is inconsistent. Needs to
improve feel for spin and find consistency with the offering as
it can get caught in between being a curveball and a slider at
times.
Changeup: Low-to-mid 80s. At its
best, will show late drop.
Hit: Starts
vertical with little pre-pitch movement. Leg lift timing device.
Quick hands. Whips the bat through the zone, but swing can get
long at times. Solid approach and knowledge of the strike zone,
but pitch recognition is still a work in progress.
Power: Average raw power. Should develop more
power as he physically matures and gets stronger.
Run: Plus speed.

Field: Fluid, athletic defender. Solid range.
Type of athlete who could be a candidate to move to center field
if he cannot stick at shortstop.
Arm:
Plus arm.
Career Notes:
One of the youngest prospects in the 2024 draft. Named Gatorade
Georgia high school player of the year. Committed to Mississippi
State before signing. Also played football and basketball in
high school. Missed some time with an injury in the spring of
2024. Prior to the draft, most teams were primarily interested
in Cason to pitch exclusively, but the Red Sox expressed
interest in Cason as a two-way player early in the process.
Summation:
High-risk, high-reward player who will be developed, initially
at least, as a two-way player. Most scouts prefer him on the
mound, but impressed at the plate and in the field, especially
at the draft combine. Has standout athleticism in either role
and strong, loose arm. On the mound has a three-pitch mix with
impressive velocity and at the plate has a solid approach and
some developing power and profiles up the middle, whether it be
at shortstop or in center field.
