Notes from the Field (4.11.17)
Traded to Cincinnati for
$1.5 million in international bonus pool money (July 2018) |
Physical Description: Undersized, athletic frame. Much smaller
than listed 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. Very skinny and lacks strength. Has
some room to fill out as he matures, but will never be overly physical or
strong.
Hit: Starts square with his hands high.
Utilizes a leg kick and has quick hands, but bat tends to drag due to lack
of strength. Pitch recognition needs refinement. Struggles with velocity.
Strong contact skills. Likes to attack early in the count leading to low
walk totals, but also low strikeout totals. Makes a lot of contact on the
ground. Potential fringe-average hit tool if he can add strength.
Power: Well below-average power potential. Not a major
part of his game. Speed will boost extra base hit totals.
Arm: Fringe-average arm strength. Enough for center field, but
light for corner outfield.
Field: Solid instincts
and plenty of range. Reads the ball off the bat and uses speed to his
advantage to close down ground. Potential above-average defender.
Run: Plus speed. Gets down the line in 4.2 seconds from
the right-side.
Career Notes: Participated in
2015 and 2016 Fall Instructional League
Summation:
Ceiling of a fringe major leaguer, up and down bench outfield type. Speed
and defensive potential profile in bench outfield role, but bat will be
tested by upper level pitching. No power potential so will have to make
enough contact to hit and keep pitchers honest. Projects as an
organizational player if bat doesn’t develop. |
