Tall left-hander with a solid frame. Thick at present, but frame
could support added weight as he physically matures. Minimal
from the third base side of the rubber. Uses three-quarters arm
slot with high leg kick and long arm action. Some front-side.
Comes across his body and has a lot of moving parts in his
delivery. Has smoothed out delivery some in recent years.
Low-effort mechanics. Fringe-average arm speed.
90-91 mph, topping out at 92 mph. Loses velocity as he works
deeper into games, ending up more in the 89-90 mph range. Has
added velocity as he has physically matured. Will also throw a
two-seam fastball at about 85-87 mph with significant arm-side
Changeup: 80-82 mph. Has some feel for offering
and at its best, will show fade and be his best secondary.
However, will slow down arm and body noticeably at times,
Curveball: 76-78 mph. Big, 1-to-7 break.
Replaced low-70s version that was a slow, sweepy pitch that was
more of a breaker that rolled to the plate.
83-84 mph. Loose with short, 10-to-4 break.
Notes: Trained at the same Venezuelan amateur program as Felix
Doubront. Participated in 2014, 2015, and 2016 Fall
Instructional League. Re-signed with the organization after
becoming a minor league free agent in 2020.
Fringy, but somewhat
improved arsenal with some projection still remaining. Will need
to take steps forward as he progresses through the system. Most
likely projects as a AAA rotation depth arm.
