Physical Description:
Skinny, athletic frame. On the small side, does not have the build
to sustain much additional weight.
Mechanics:
Throws from a high-three-quarters to over-the-top arm slot. Starts
in the middle of the rubber. Jerky delivery with effort. High leg
kick with lots of moving parts. Atypical arm path. Stab behind and
long arm action forward. Some deception in delivery and will try to
disrupt hitters' timing by varying the length of his windup and time
to the plate.
Fastball: 90-92 mph. Does not
throw often compared to cutter and changeup. Throws strikes,
potential for average control. Potential below-average offering.
Cutter: 87-89 mph. Short, horizontal break.
Throws often. Advanced feel. Command needs refinement. Potential
average offering.
Changeup: 86-88 mph.
Throws with deceptive arm speed. Shows late fade and sink on
occasion. Has shown the ability to miss bats in the low minors. Lack
of separation from fastball/cutter is a concern, as more advanced
hitters can sit on similar velocity band. Potential average
offering.
Career Notes: Selected by the Red
Sox in the Minor League Phase of the 2019 Rule 5 Draft. Originally
drafted by the Blue Jays in the fifth round of the 2015 Draft out of
Puerto Rico.
Summation: Potential
organizational relief arm. Lack of a plus pitch limits ceiling.
Cutter/changeup combination is intriguing, but lack of a useable
fastball is a concern against more advanced hitters.
