Physical
Description: Converted catcher with a short, stocky build and no
physical projection.
Mechanics: Throws from a
three quarters arm slot. Starts on the first base side of the rubber.
Short arm action. Quick arm.
Fastball: 93-95 mph.
Command and control are a work in progress.
Slider:
83-85 mph. Still developing feel for the pitch, but will flash
above-average potential with two-plane break.
Changeup:
82-83 mph. Has shown the ability to pull the string on the pitch and bury
it down in the zone to elicit swings and misses. Needs to improve
consistency with the pitch.
Career Notes: Drafted
in 2014 out of high school as a strong-armed defensive-minded catcher. Did
not hit enough in two years in the system. Has shown improvements each
year since converting. Like many conversion projects, needs to work on an
accelerated schedule through the system due to impending minor league free
agency.
Summation: At this stage profiles as an
organizational pitcher, but has the potential to make ongoing improvements
to his control and refinement of his secondary pitches, which leaves open
the door for further advancement. |
