Physical Description: Short, stocky frame. Looks shorter
than listed. Filled out lower half. Minimal remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws from a three-quarters arm slot,
starting on the first base side of the rubber. Uses whole body in delivery
and keeps arm behind body until late.
Fastball:
90-92 mph. Fastball sat 93-95 mph and topped out at 96 mph during the 2017
season. Velocity was much lower in Spring Training 2018 and that drop has
carried over to the regular season. Pitch is on the straight side and
lacks plane. Throws strikes, but command needs improvement.
Curveball: 76-78 mph. Vertical break.
Changeup: 82-83 mph. Pitch has improved since he signed. Velocity
was in the high-80s at first, but has developed better feel for the pitch
and now has more separation from his fastball. Still inconsistent and has
outings where pitch will leave him.
Career Notes:
Signed at the age of 18, which is late for a Dominican prospect. Still
spent two seasons in the DSL. Excelled in Low-A in 2017.
Summation: If velocity comes back looks like a potential
organizational reliever, with a chance for more if a secondary pitch takes
a step forward. With diminished stuff, however, looks more like a low
minors depth arm. |
