A Glorius Story: From batting records to draft... (3.23.16)
Scouting Scratch: Cosart, Glorius, Fernandez... (7.12.16)
Released (Jan. 2019) |
Physical
Description: Athletic right-hander with a
solid pitcher's frame that has some projection remaining.
Mechanics: Over-the-top arm slot. Starts on the first base side
of the rubber. Some effort in delivery; slight rock back and head jerk.
Arm action is on the long side behind with a wrist wrap. Live, quick arm.
Fastball: 92-94 mph. Tops out in the high-90s. Will
show late life and cut when he finishes the pitch, and has shown
bat-missing ability. Command and control need refinement; will overthrow
at times, leaving the pitch up and out of the zone. Potential
plus-to-better offering.
Cutter: High-80s. Will
flash late, hard bite at its best.
Changeup: 82-85
mph. Shows late drop and splitter-like action on occasion, but is
inconsistent and will float to the plate at times. Tends to slow body and
telegraph pitch. Below-average potential. Didn’t throw in outings scouted
in Spring Training 2017.
Curveball: 78-80 mph.
Shows 11-to-5 break and vertical depth when he snaps it off. Didn’t throw
in outings scouted in 2016.
Career Notes: Didn’t
start pitching until college. Garnered interest from the Twins, Royals,
Tigers, Giants, and Padres before signing with the Red Sox as an undrafted
free agent. Tore ligaments in his left ankle in an accident in March 2018.
Had surgery and missed significant time.
Summation: Potential middle reliever
if cutter continues to develop and velocity ticks back up. Good pitcher’s
frame and fastball/slider combination has potential. Needs to refine
command and control. Young arm, still developing as a pitcher. |
