Physical Description:
Sturdy catcher's frame. Fairly athletic. No remaining
projection.
Hit: Well below-average hit
tool. Lacks bat speed. Passable plate discipline and approach,
but has lots of swing-and-miss. Struggles against both off-speed
stuff and good velocity.
Power: Average
to potentially a tick above-average raw power, but unlikely to
translate in game due to inability to make consistent contact.
When he connects, he can hit the ball hard, but it is mostly on
the ground.
Run: Well below-average
runner, about average for a catcher.
Field:
Above-average defensive backstop. Blocks balls well, fluid
motions behind the plate and shows good framing skills. Has also
played third base, first base, and corner outfield in past
years, but has almost exclusively caught with the Red Sox in
2023. |
|
Arm: Solid-average arm for a catcher.
Historically posts solid caught stealing numbers.
Career Notes: Played a utility role in
college and early in pro career. Was on Twins' 40-man roster in
2022. After being claimed following the 2022 season, cleared
waivers and was outrighted to Worcester in November 2022,
signaling that he likely signed a contract for 2023 before being
designated for assignment. Received an invitation to Major
League Spring Training in 2023. Was briefly recalled to the MLB
roster in June-July 2023 before being designated for assignment
and clearing waivers, being outrighted back to Worcester.
Summation: Potential Triple-A emergency
depth. Decent option as a short-term, defense-first catcher to
fill in for short periods at the MLB level, but bat is extremely
light and would be exposed if forced to play for any
considerable amount of time.
