Physical Description: Medium
frame, not overly athletic. Minimal remaining projection.
Mechanics: Throws from a low three-quarters
arm slot starting on the third base side of the rubber. Some
deception with his release, but hitters get a good look prior.
Rhythmic delivery. High leg kick before long arm swing back with
a stab before coming forward. Low release height and approach
angle. Drive leg knee is almost on the ground when he releases
the ball. Solid extension.
Fastball:
94-96 mph four-seamer, tops out at 98 mph. Heavy vertical
movement. Has shown premium bat-missing ability. Command and
control are a work in progress. Struggles to command to the
glove side. Utilizes the pitch about two-thirds of the time. Has
a lot of success against right-handed hitters. Red Sox have him
adding a sinker also, but he did not use it in a game scouted
shortly after trade. Potential plus offering.
Cutter: 87-90 mph. Newer pitch that he started to
develop when he joined the Red Sox. Short, horizontal break.
Lacks depth. Has already shown some viability as a pitch to
generate weak contact early in counts. Potential average
offering.
Slurve: 82-84 mph. 2-to-8
shape. Trending towards being more of a slider than a curve.
Inconsistent. Flashes depth and bite at its best. Still a work
in progress and likely to continue to evolve as the Red Sox
tweak it. Potential below-average offering.
Changeup: 85-87 mph. Uses primarily against
right-handed hitters. Has some drop. Lacks feel and will often
miss uncompetitively. Potential fringe-average offering.

Career Notes: Grandfather was a major league
pitcher for the Braves and Astros from 1968 to 1971. Third-round
pick by San Francisco in the shortened 2020 draft, received just
shy of $2.5 million to sign away from his commitment to UCLA.
Had a lot of success through Triple-A, posting impressive
strikeout numbers. Was ranked as a top 20 prospect in all of
baseball prior to the 2023 season. Posted mixed results with the
Giants between 2023 and 2025, moving up and down to the minors
and between the bullpen and the rotation. Acquired by the Red
Sox in the Rafael Devers trade in June 2025, at which point he
was optioned to Worcester to work on revising his pitch mix.
Summation: Potential back-end starter.
Ceiling of a mid-rotation starter. High-variance arm even though
he has major league experience with some evaluators believing he
is a reliever long-term. Fastball is a potential carrying pitch,
but is still working on developing the rest of his arsenal. Red
Sox immediately started to modify his arsenal, adding a cutter
and sinker and tweaking his breaking ball. Cutter already shows
potential playing off his fastball, but breaking ball and
changeup are works in progress.
