Physical Description: Tall, strong frame.
Physical. Sturdy, with minimal remaining projection.
Below-average athlete.
Hit: Starts open
with his hands high. Toe tap timing device. Above-average bat
speed. Leveraged swing that he really gets his entire body into.
Uppercut swing path. Approach improved throughout his college
career. Comfortable hitting fastballs, but struggles against
secondary offerings. Needs to show he can make consistent
contact against professional pitching.
Power:
Plus raw power. Posts high-end exit velocities and quality
batted ball angles. High air-pull rate that aligns with where
his power primarily plays.
Run:
Well-below-average speed. Not a part of his game.
Field: Not totally clear that he can stay at
catcher long term. Has a bigger frame for a catcher and lacks
mobility behind the plate. Improved as a receiver during his
career at Florida, but blocking is inconsistent. Played some
first base in college and likely will end up there if he cannot
stick behind the plate. Potential below-average defensive
profile, but grade is fluid.
Arm:
Solid-average arm strength. |

Career Notes: Was seen as a
potential mid-round pick out of high school, but went undrafted
due to his strong commitment to Florida. Immediately produced in
college and was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. Regressed
offensively as a sophomore (and was not drafted despite being
eligible), but bounced back as a junior. Suffered a broken
forearm in May 2025, ending his season. Still made the All-SEC
First Team and was a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award as
the nation's top collegiate catcher. Was again seen as a
potential mid-round pick, ranked 127th in the class by Baseball
America, but fell to the 14th round, where he signed for an
overslot bonus equivalent to the slot of an eighth-round pick.
Did not play in an affiliated game after signing in 2025 as he
rehabbed his injury. Acquired by the Red Sox at the 2025 Rule 5
protection deadline in a trade for right-handed pitcher Alex
Hoppe.
Summation: Powerful right-handed
hitter with a chance to stay at catcher. Wide-range of outcomes
still, but has intriguing impact ability and a strong arm to
build on. If he can stay at catcher, he could bring an
intriguing offensive skillset to the position, but might have
enough offensive upside to profile at first base if he can’t
stick behind the plate.
