  Scouting Report & Links

Physical Description: Strong, sturdy frame. Thick lower half. Lost a significant amount of weight when he got to college.

Hit: Starts slightly open with his hands high. Short leg lift and gets his foot down quickly. Quick hands, uphill swing. Has shown the ability to turn on velocity. Very patient, knows the strike zone. Has had trouble in the past with good fastballs up in the zone. Potential fringe-average hitter.

Power: Plus raw power. Has shown the ability to drive the ball, especially to the pull side, both in batting practice and in-game. Swing has leverage and really utilizes his whole body in his swing. Above-average power potential.

Run: Well below-average speed. Not a major part of his game.

Field: Primarily a catcher in college, but also spent time at first and third base. Unclear if he can stick behind the plate long-term. Receiving ability is rough and has trouble blocking balls in the dirt. Potential below-average defender.
  Arm: Above-average arm strength.

Career Notes: College teammate of Red Sox 2021 second-round pick Jud Fabian and high-school teammate of Reds 2019 third-round pick Tyler Callihan. 2021 Newcomer All-SEC Team and 2021 SEC All-Tournament Team.

Summation: Long-term value is tied up in his bat, but has the offensive upside to carry a below-average defensive profile. Value increases if he can stick behind the plate, but if he hits enough you can find a defensive spot for him if catching does not work out.

Note: This page will be updated with a complete scouting report after the scouting team has seen the player in person.
