  Scouting Report & Links

Physical Description: Veteran backstop with a soild frame.

Hit: Offensive-minded catcher with an above average hit tool.  Quiet stance, holds the bat high pre-pitch, lowering through the zone on approach. Slight uppercut swing mechanics.

Power: Showed slightly above average power in his heyday.

Run: Passable speed for a catcher.

Field: Smart, adaptable on defense. At his peak was above-average defensively, but skills have declined in recent years. Can also play first base.

Arm: Plus arm, able to make all the throws from third base, including deep against the foul line. Showed an average arm in 2019.

Career Notes: Two-time All-Star and former Brewers MVP. After opening the 2020 season on the Boston roster, was designated for assignment after less than one week and spent most of the season playing at the Alternate Training Site after clearing waivers. Received praise for his willingness to work with younger players at the ATS. Was released in September so that he could sign with the Phillies for their playoff push.

Summation: Now probably best suited for a backup or platoon role. Very good clubhouse presence.
