Physical
Description: Small, skinny frame. Doesn’t have much projection
due to frame size and lacks strength. Athletic, quick-twitch player.
Hit: Switch-hitter utilizes the same set-up from both
sides of the plate. Has a slightly open stance and a short, compact,
contact-oriented swing. Solid feel for hit with an all-fields approach and
has shown the willingness to shorten up with two strikes. Solid pitch
recognition skills, makes a lot of contact. Potential fringe-average hit
tool.
Power: Minimal power. Lacks strength and swing is
not designed to drive the ball in the air.
Arm:
Above-average arm strength. Accurate with a quick release.
Field: Very fluid, instinctual defender. Solid fundamentals. Has
very soft hands and easy actions. Solid range to both sides and is
comfortable charging the ball. Knows how to play angles and plays the
position with a certain flair. Will make difficult plays look easy at
times. Potential above-average defender. Began playing the outfield as
well in 2021 to provide further positional versatility.
Run: Average
speed. Will steal a few bases mainly due to instincts and ability to read
pitchers.
Career Notes: Godson of former major
league outfielder Andres Torres, who spent a couple months in the Red Sox
minor league system in 2014 at the same time Rivera was drafted and
signed.
Summation: Solid organizational
player who could stick around for a long time in the minors due to his
glove and makeup, especially after adding the ability to play the outfield
to his repertoire. Asset to pitchers due to his defensive ability, but
marginal
potential at the plate. Ceiling of an emergency
up-and-down defensive specialist. |
