Physical
Description: Sturdy, filled-out pitcher’s frame. Minimal
remaining projection. Looks listed height and weight.
Mechanics: Throws from a three-quarters arm slot starting on the
first base side of the rubber. Doesn’t use a wind-up. Has a high leg kick
and slight trunk twist adding some deception. Keeps arm behind until late.
Clean arm action. Works quick.
Fastball: 88-90
mph. Tops out at 91 mph. Pitch shows natural cut and jumps on hitters due
to deception in delivery. Advanced present control of the pitch and solid
command profile. Pitch could play up against left-handed hitters. Average
potential offering.
Changeup: 82-83 mph. Advanced
feel for offering. Throws with the same arm speed as fastball. Shows drop
when turned over down in the zone. Solid-average potential.
Curveball: 76-80 mph. Inconsistent, slurvy offering with
two-plane break. Doesn’t consistently snap off and gets caught between a
curveball and slider at times. Rolls to the plate at lower velocities.
Shows more bite in the upper end of the velocity range. Pitch needs
refinement. Below-average potential.
Career Notes:
Participated in 2016 Fall Instructional League.
Summation:
Ceiling of a left-handed relief specialist. Could move quickly as a
college arm with advanced two-pitch mix. Even if he doesn’t reach his
ceiling, profiles as a solid organizational arm who could stick around for
a while given that he is a left-handed pitcher who could be especially
effective against left-handed hitters. |
