Physical Description: Average,
athletic frame. Minimal remaining projection.
Hit:
Starts square in a crouch. Utilizes a toe tap timing device.
Average bat speed. Loose at the plate. Short, compact swing. Hands work well at the plate. Strong contact skills.
Professional approach. Knows the strike zone and does not chase
often. Will take a walk. Does have some trouble recognizing
secondary pitches, especially with two strikes. Very comfortable
hitting fastballs, including high-end velocity. Will go
gap-to-gap and use all fields. Left-handed swing is more
designed for line drives, while right-handed swing is more
uphill and tailored to hit the ball in the air. Does not hit the
ball very hard, but has a knack for finding an opening in the
defense. Potential average hit tool.
Power:
Fringe-average raw power. Has shown the ability to drive mistake
pitches. Shows more power from the right side. Exit velocities
are below-average, but will run into a few home runs a year.
Below-average power potential.
Run:
Fringe-average speed. Solid instincts.
Field:
Potential solid-average defensive profile at multiple positions.
Soft hands, solid instincts in the field. Playable at shortstop,
but also can play any infield and outfield position except for
center field, and has done so during his time in the Red Sox
system. Advanced feel for the game and strong instincts. |

Arm: Average arm, able to make all the throws
from the infield, including deep against the foul line at third
base. Might be exposed in an everyday role on the left side of
the infield, but in a utility role, has plenty of arm.
Career Notes:
Cousin of MLB veteran infielder Eric Sogard and nephew of former
major leaguers Steve and Dave Sax. Acquired from the Rays in
February 2021 with Ronaldo Hernandez for Jeffrey Springs and
Chris Mazza. Moved between High-A and Double-A in 2021 in part
to help fill in for players participating in the Olympics and
Olympic qualifying. Shuttled between Double-A and Triple-A in
2022. Received a non-roster invitation to MLB Spring Training in
2023.
Summation: Projects as a high-end,
up-and-down organizational depth player. Ceiling of a solid
utility player. Lacks a carrying tool, but has a bunch of 45 and 50
tools. Sum-of-all-parts type of player. Strong feel at the plate
and is solid enough defensively at a variety of positions to
bring versatility to a roster. Unlikely to ever develop into a
starting caliber player, but could carve out a nice role as a
bench player who can play multiple
positions as necessary based on the needs of the roster.
