Physical Description:
Average-sized pitcher's frame. Filled out lower half. No
remaining projection.
Mechanics: Began
throwing exclusively from a low three-quarters arm slot in the
Mexican winter league in 2024. Began varying arm angles in 2023
to be able to most effectively throw his sinker after spending
most of his pitching career at a more typical three-quarters
slot. Pitches from the stretch at all times. Will move to
different sides of the rubber to change his release point, even
to the same batter. Falls to third base side following release.
Fastball: With current arm slot, relies on a
sinker added in 2023 with the Brewers that sits 94-95 mph with
arm-side movement. Also throws a four-seam fastball that sits at
about the same velocity, but once sat 97-99 mph, topping
out at 101 mph. Fringe-average control and command.
Cutter: High-80s.
Slider: 82-85 mph. Average pitch that has
flashed plus in the past.
Changeup: 82-85 mph. Mostly uses against
lefties.

Career
Notes: Highly-regarded two-way player in high school,
considered to have high first-round pick potential. Passed on
the draft and enrolled in an honors program at USC. Pitched and
played catcher at USC. Was an All-Star in the Cape Cod League in
2007 and 2008. Spent three seasons as a full-time catcher in the
Cardinals system after being drafted in 2009. Converted to
pitching full-time in 2013. St. Louis released him in December
2014. Caught on with the Pirates organization for the 2015
season, the pitched for the independent New Jersey Jackals in
2016. Signed with the Reds in 2017 after touching 101 mph in
offseason workouts, then spent two years with San Diego before
landing with Philadelphia then Boston following waiver claims.
Made 10 appearances with the Red Sox during the COVID-shortened
2020 season. Was designated for assignment during the offseason
and went on to have stints in the Cubs and Mets organizations in
2021. Tore his hamstring running the bases during a start for
the Mets in July 2021 and missed the rest of the season. Pitched
in Korea in 2022. Pitched for Israel in the 2023 World Baseball
Classic. Spent two months in the Milwaukee organization in 2023
before signing with the independent Long Island Ducks. Pitched
in Mexico in both the summer and winter of 2024. Won the Mexican
winter league triple crown in 2024, leading the league in ERA,
wins, and strikeouts.
Summation: Journeyman who changed his arm
slot to great success in winter ball in 2024. Profiles as
Triple-A depth. Has spent most of his recent career starting,
but arm slot change makes him an interesting relief candidate as
well. Pays close attention to pitch analytics and how he can
improve his arsenal. Will change looks to attack hitters in
unorthodox ways, moving on the rubber and changing arm slots.
