2015 Top 40 Season in Review
Claimed off waivers by Cleveland (February 2017) |
Physical
Description: Right-hander with a solid pitcher’s frame but
limited remaining projection. Strong lower half.
Mechanics:
Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Stands on the first base side
of the rubber. Utilizes a full wind-up and medium leg kick. Rocks back
before coming forward. Delivery has some drop and drive in it. Starts
hunched over and has a compact delivery with short arm action. Slight arm
hook behind. Some front-side deception.
Fastball:
90-92 mph. Tops out at 95 mph. Heavy pitch that shows arm-side run and
finish. Ball jumps on hitters. Takes a few pitches to get loose.
Above-average control, throws strikes and works around the zone. Average
command profile. Potential above-average offering if increased velocity
since move to bullpen sticks.
Slider: 81-83 mph.
Short, vertical break. Lacks tilt. Fringe-average potential.
Changeup: 81-83 mph. Has fade, but throws with
inconsistent arm speed. Fringe-average potential.
Career
Notes: Moved to the bullpen during the 2016 season.
Summation: Has the potential to develop into a
sixth-inning relief option if fastball gains from moving to the bullpen
hold. Doesn’t have a true put-away secondary option, and slider and
changeup lack separation. Strong command and control profile and
three-pitch mix could play in bullpen role, especially given Taylor’s
ability to limit hard contact. |
