Career Notes: Has worked as both a
starter and reliever over his career. Spent time in the Toronto, Oakland,
Cincinnati, and Minnesota organizations before signing a minor league deal
with Boston in December 2016. Was a surprise addition to Boston’s opening
day major league roster in 2018 after outperforming other bullpen
candidates. Was designated for assignment and outrighted after clearing
waivers during the 2020-21 offseason. Began 2021 at the
Alternate Training Site.
Summation: Profiles as a solid
organizational depth type who can be used as an emergency MLB depth arm in
a multiple-inning relief role when necessary. Throws everything hard, but
secondary stuff all comes in on a similar plane. Has had better splits
against lefties in his career. Inconsistent command and control mean his
stuff plays down at times.
