Physical
Description: Filled-out. Mature body.
Mechanics: High three-quarters arm slot. Long arm action in back.
Slow arm speed.
Fastball: 82-88. Throws
four-seam and sinker at lower velocity range. Will also throw sinker. Uses
his fastballs about 20% of the time.
Knuckleball: 72-79. Throws more than 80 percent
of the time. Intentionally adds/subtracts velocity to keep hitters
off-balance.
Career Notes: Missed beginning of
2014 season after offseason surgery for a sports hernia. Threw 94 mph as a
2006 draft pick out of Hawaii, but added a knuckleball to his arsenal in
2011 after his progress stalled and began throwing the pitch full-time in
2012. Had left knee surgery in May 2017, causing him to miss the
rest of the 2017 season and the outset of the 2018 season. Suspended
15 games in 2018 for violation of the MLB domestic violence policy.
